PLAYER DEVELOPMENT |
Our instructors are teachers of the game. Even though we have programs and coaches that have the ability to teach strategies and systems, our player development program focuses on skills. Whether it is individual’s skills, individual tactics or small group tactics, we challenge our students to reach their potential and maximize their development. Every program, whether it is a camp, team training, “Blade” Skating Treadmill, private training or children’s program is developed with a purpose. We analyze the players and their skill level and their strengths and weaknesses to create a program that ensures maximum development. Our instructors have high expectations for every student and use positive direct and immediate instruction, as well as testing and video analysis to ensure development during every drill.

Mike King is RHP’s Director of Player Development. He joined the RHP team in January 2012 after spending the last year in the player development field- working for former Los Angeles Kings skating coach Robby Glantz as well as working for The Hockey Academy as a head on ice skills and skating instructor. Prior to coaching, Mike spent parts of 2 seasons playing minor professional hockey both in the United States and in Europe. Mike also saw success at both the collegiate and junior A level prior to playing professionally.
Mike’s goal is to instil the value of skill development in all areas of hockey to the athletes that train at RHP. By mastering the basic fundamentals of hockey, players are able to reach their highest potential in the sport.
Mike hopes that his passion for the game of hockey and willingness to continue to learn all aspects of skill development will allow him to become one of the best skills and skating instructors in hockey.
"I strongly believe that you must coach to develop hockey players, coaching just to win is acceptable only at the highest levels. If you do not create a strong foundation of individual skills then players will never reach their full potential in game situations."
